Belize Consider Decriminalizing Cannabis Possession

Belize is a beautiful country, that is unfortunately boarded by Mexico, Guatemala and Caribbean Sea, which makes Belize is a prime drug traffic gateway between South America to Mexico and then to the United States.

Monday, July 16, Belize Government announced the appointment of a committee to evaluate a proposal to decriminalize cannabis possession. The proposal offers to remove criminal penalties for possession of up to 10 grams of cannabis. Instead start giving fines and mandatory drug education.

Current laws say, possession of less then 60 gram of marijuana is punished by a fine of up to US$26.000 and up to three years in prison.

Since last year Belize was added to the blacklist countries with major drug production or transit routs by Obama Administration, the Belize's government decided to join the Latin America Countries coalition  that pushing for an end of the current drug war.
